Specialties of Tsuchiura 土浦市の名産品の紹介

Tsuchiura has been inhabited since ancient times, and is blessed with rich crop yields. The city’s products, including fisheries and agricultural produce, processed foods, soy sauce, sweets, and handmade crafts, are highly regarded. Look at, enjoy, and taste the wide variety of specialties, including handmade products with authentic local flavor and newly created products, all grown by traditional techniques.

  

Tsukudani『佃煮』

Tsukudani is fish or other food preserved by boiling in soy sauce. Various kinds of fish caught on the lake are cooked by this traditional method. Taste Tsuchiura’s delicious tsukudani. 

 

 　Major products

Assorted tsukudani, pond smelt grilled with mirin sauce, pond smelt boiled with sweet sauce, pond smelt boiled with sugar, grasshoppers boiled with sweet sauce, carp boiled with sweet sauce, dried shrimp.

 

 

 Processed foods made from renkon『レンコン加工品』

Tsuchiura is the biggest lotus root (renkon) production area in Japan. Processed foods such as udon noodles and pickles made from renkon are becoming popular.

Tsuchiura produces a variety of traditional sweets and candies.Sweets made from renkon have now been created

Renkon sablé, Kasumigaura sablé, soba sankaku, renkon pie manju (buns stuffed with sweetened bean paste), Kijo manju.

 

　Soba, soy sauce, natto『そば、しょう油、納豆など』

Tsuchiura produces the high-quality  Hitachi aki soba, a buckwheat noodle. The city is also famous for brewed products, since it is surrounded by major producers of high-quality soybean and wheat. Tsuchiura soy sauce retains a high reputation.

Onono Komachi soba, buckwheat flour, Shiho soy sauce, Ohitachi soy sauce, natto in straw bag, Tsuchiura Zeppelin curry.
