For All The Citizens of Tsuchiura City (May.15.2020)

Message from Mayor on May 15

(In response to lift of state of emergency over COVID-19)

Japanese Government lifted state of emergency in 39 prefectures including Ibaraki on May 14.  Mr Oigawa, the Governor of Ibaraki Prefecture, indicated prefectural policy and measures today.

Ibaraki Prefecture will phase down measures including stay home/business shutdown requirements from May 18, that include daytime going-out on weekday/weekend (Elderlies /expecting mothers are continually asked to stay home).

With many facilities and companies, and as the satellite City of Tokyo metropolitan region, Tsuchiura is considered to be the area of high-risk infection.

The City, however, has only 6 positive cases and no new cases/clusters have been confirmed since April 16.  The City manages to control the spread of COVID-19 so far.

Again, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the citizens for making every effort to prevent infection.

The emergency declaration has been lifted, and yet I would like you to keep infection preventive way of life for preparing possible second waves that is concerned to arrive in the future.

Therefore the City decided to take the City’s original infection control measures to the citizens.

The City will send three facial masks to all households’ mailboxes in Tsuchiura.

The City will also provide ‘hypochlorous acid solution’ at community centers for compensating lack of sanitizing products supply.

Masks and hypochlorous acid solution will be provided from May 19.

It is obvious that keeping social distancing is essential in our daily life against COVID-19, at the same time we should unite our hearts to overcome this situation together.

Mariko Ando,

Mayor of Tsuchiura City
